Legal Provision

• This form is used by the Assessing Officer to serve a demand notice when any amount becomes payable due to an order passed under any provision of the Income-tax Act, including assessments, reassessments, penalty orders, interest levy, or any other adjudicative order.
• As per Section 143(1), Section 200A(1), and Section 206CB(1), the intimation issued to the assessee/deductor/collector is deemed to be a notice of demand.

• Form No. 7 was introduced by the Income-tax (2^nd Amendment) Rules, 2005, w.e.f. 07-01-2005

Due Date

• The Assessing Officer specifies the due date for payment of the amount demanded in Form No. 7 , typically not less than 30 days from the date of service of the notice, unless reduced in cases where recovery is deemed expedient in the interest of revenue.
